Politically, I am not a fan of John McCain. But, his military service for our country was exceptional and he deserves both respect and praise for that service and the sacrifices that accompanied it. His principles towards political opponents were also highly admirable, at times, and reflected well on America and American ideals. I find it truly unbelievable that Trump could show such blatant disrespect towards McCain's military service and still get elected. Apologists who say that Trump's statements about McCain are "just politics" should be ashamed of themselves. Character matters, especially in politics.
Trump's recent proclamation of National Character Counts Week is the very height of hypocrisy. Trump is completely lacking in character and is not fit to be President.
His greatest fear is looking like a loser. So much so, that he is fine with America losing as long as it appears that it wasn't his fault. A character in a football movie once said that "winners always want the ball when the game is on the line." The COVID-19 pandemic is the greatest crisis America has faced in a decade. Donald Trump could have, and should have, stepped up to lead our country's fight against COVID-19. Instead, he froze, chickened out, and refused to "take the ball." He "passed the buck" to states and cities. All so that he could avoid blame, but steal credit for any victory. Thousands of Americans died unnecessarily as a result -- thousands. Trump is the definition of a coward. As noted earlier, we will see if personally contracting COVID-19 causes him to reassess his priorities and properly lead America's COVID fight. That would be a good thing. The answer: Nope. No Change. Nyet. Researchers from Cornell University recently reviewed 38 million news articles on COVID-19 and concluded that "Donald Trump was likely the largest driver of the COVID-19 misinformation..." He is not fit to be President.
From golf to birtherism, Trump loves to criticize Obama. But, most of this is stunningly hypocritical. Examples: TAXES: Tweet 8/13/2012. "@BarakObama who wants to raise all our taxes only pays 20.5% on $790K salary http://t.co/bqF26mQf do as I say not as I do." Reality: Obama paid >$162,000 that year. Trump in 2017 paid $750. GOLF: Trump said Obama golfed too much and did so during crises. Tweet 8/8/2016: “But because I’m going to be working for you, I’m not going to have time to go golfing, believe me. Believe me. Believe me, folks.” Ah yes, believe him. Reality: Trump has golfed 292 times so far in his four years, compared to Obama's 113 in his first term. Believe him. Executive Orders: Trump complained about Obama "issuing executive orders that are major power grabs of authority?" Reality: Trump has issued 187 EOs in 3.7 years, 30% more than Obama's 146 in 4 years. Draining the Swamp: Tweeted 6/25/2020. "The Obama/Biden Administration is the most CORRUPT in HISTORY!" Reality: 14 Trump associates have been indicted during his Presidency versus 1 for Obama.
Trump is actively dividing America. He didn't start this process, but he is accelerating it. His efforts are widespread and effective; including delegitimizing journalism, science, and bureaucracies while indirectly legitimizing white power groups, police brutality, lawlessness by his followers, and fomenting anti-government sentiment. He threatened to withhold disaster support from states that are not sufficiently complimentary to him and blames "Blue" states for COVID-19 problems (but even Trump states are now being hit hard by COVID). Perhaps his most disturbing effort is the attempt to discourage illegal immigration by undertaking widespread separation of undocumented children and parents at the Mexican border, and doing so without having an effective system for eventually reuniting those families. This is just unacceptable in so many ways.
Oh so many, many lies: 30,573 to be exact, as of 1/20/2021. Trump is the most dishonest and blatant liar in our lifetime. Trump's Top 5 lies:
1. Trump: 1/6/2021. "We won. We won in a landslide. This was a landslide.” Reality: Biden 306 - Trump 232.
2. Trump: 2/26/2020. We have 15 cases of Coronovirus. In a couple of days we will be near zero. Reality: 9/27/2020. 7.2 million cases; 208,110 fatalities.
3. Trump: 6/15/2015.
"I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will have Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words." Reality: Nope.
4. Trump: 4/24/2019. Tweet that Mueller Report found "No Collusion, No Obstruction, Complete and Total EXONERATION." Reality: Mueller stated in House testimony that his report did not exonerate Trump.
5. Trump: 8/9/2020. Stated he passed Veteran's Choice bill when no one else could. Reality: Veteran's Choice was signed into law by Obama on 8/7/2014.
He does not behave like a President who wants to unite the country or lead the world.
He proven time and time again that his behavior is wildly inappropriate, especially his tweets. Inappropriate enough, that even a town hall moderator had to remind him that: "You're the President, not some crazy uncle who can retweet whatever"...
The Reality: Trump is a crazy uncle and a crazy President. And, bye-the-way, no other President would have needed to be reminded of this.
And, what's with this QAnon junk? Unbelievable.
His continual approval of any and all violence done for his benefit is totally unacceptable.
Comrade Trump is a scumbag.
